Thank You Gentlemen, I certainly appreciate the opportunity to get some insight into places distant from the American market, but still very recognizable and relatable. What makes us special or different is easy in my opinion, and it has a bit to do with how we are also alike... most of the streamers, players and etc. on the market and being discussed on this site are at their core, computers. They run Intel, AMD or ARM chips and feature an operating system. They all have capabilities beyond what they do, but have been handicapped in various ways in order to obscure the fact that they are... computers. The reasons are several, but primarily, many users insist that they do not want a computer, they want an audio component. They think that computers or servers are too difficult to use, and not cool or not audiophile enough. That is great for manufacturers... they simply need a pretty face, inexpensive parts and a small linux distribution with network capabilities and they are off to the races. Very little to support, small needs in the power department and great margins. It is a business man's dream...

Our entry into the market was very different. The first Wolf was built for my father, in response to his desire to drop $10k+ on a component with 250GB storage. It was beautiful, but it was cell phone processing power with an output stage, and I'd have been the one who had to support him! My father can barely find the Start button, and suddenly he wanted a device that still required a computer to get music, a tablet to control the device, and no built in monitor or television based interface. It was a nightmare in the making, so I told him to wait a few weeks and got to work. That was five years ago.

Our design philosophy is this - Sound, Power and Simplicity. We built Wolf systems first and foremost for us, our family and friends. We wanted to create a system that gave them all the tools they'd need to operate in todays digital audio world, and do it with one system that sounds at least as good, in most cases better, than the other options out there. We figured out how to make high powered Hi-Fi, and worked on the software so that even our grandparents could use it. A Wolf can be used like any other product - with a tablet app and a DAC, or you can add a screen or two and use the system however you want, HDMI receiver, onboard sound, etc. The important point is that we left those choices up to you. No two listeners are the same, so we built a system that that is open and configurable for nearly any use case. This has really begun to resonate within industry. Manufacturers are realizing that our servers have a sound beyond anything they'd ever experienced with a PC or laptop, and are really excited to have the ease of use a touchscreen monitor can provide at shows, where wifi signals are unreliable. You'll be seeing a lot more of us in magazines and in show coverage soon.

Καλημέρα ομάδα έχω το NAIM NDX2 στο σπίτι για δοκιμή ! Έχοντας περάσει αρκετό καιρό με το DAC της ίδιας εταιρίας έχω αρχίσει να φτάνω σε μερικά συμπεράσματα ! Θα μοιραστώ τις εντυπώσεις μετά το ΣΚ που θα έχω χρόνο να κάνω μερικά τεστ . Σε κάθε περιπτώση το streaming είναι το μέλλον αν και δν έχει φτάσει στα περισοτερα συστήματά που έχω ακούσει την ναναπαραγωγή από CD.

Η Volumio κυκλοφόρησε μια νέα πρόταση που καλύπτει πολλές ανάγκες. Το ονομάζει Primo και είναι streamer βασισμένο στο Asus Tinkerboard μαζί με ESS Sabre DAC 9028. Για όσους δεν γνωρίζουν το Asus Tinkerboard είναι σαν το Raspberry Pi 3 αλλά με καλύτερο USB bus controller και ισχυρότερο επεξεργαστή. Φυσικά φοράει Volumio OS με δυνατότητα streaming Tidal, Qobuz κτλ. Δεν ξέρω αν έχουν λυθεί κάποια προβληματάκια του παρελθόντος όπως η διαχείριση πολύ μεγάλων βιβλιοθηκών, η τιμή όμως είναι ανταγωνιστική στα 399€ (τα πρώτα κομμάτια στα 350)

Βέβαια στα ίδια περίπου χρήματα υπάρχει και το Auralic Aries mini, και αυτό με ESS SABRE DAC αλλά με σταθερό λειτουργικό και κορυφαίο interface...

Κυκλοφόρησε η ανανεωμένη εκδοση του κορυφαιου ισως streamer της αγορας, του Aurender W 20 SE. Με τιμη στα $22.000 !!! τα εχει ολα: τροφοδοτικο με μπαταρια και γραμμικο, femto clocks, παιζει native DSD και DoP, solid state σκληρους, δεχεται εξωτερικό master clock κτλ κτλ. Εβαλα το προσπέκτους για οποιον ενδιαφερεται... Το ξερω οτι η τιμη ειναι υπερβολικη αλλα αν το DAC ειναι το συγχρονο phono stage τοτε το streamer ειναι το συγχρονο πικαπ.

Speak of the devil, η Melco μολις ανακοινωσε την αναβαθμιση του κορυφαιου Ν10, τιμες στις 7.000 και 9.000 στερλινες αναλογα με τον σκληρο δισκο (HDD ή SSD). Tempting ....

The N10/2 is a two-box design

twin Ethernet ports, LAN and PLAYER, the latter being a dedicated port designed to connect directly to network streamers without the need for an intervening data switch

Twin USB 2.0 ports are also available, (plus a further front-panel USB port) including a dedicated USB DAC output, ready for connection to USB DACs, USB DAC-equipped amplifiers or active speakers. The second USB port enables USB devices to connect and operate effortlessly, including: importing or playing music from memory devices, HDD/SSD drives and CD drives (CD ‘rippers’); capacity expansion with Melco’s E100 (or other) storage drive; and easy backup to HDD/SSD drives.

In addition to Melco’s software architecture, the N10/2 benefits from Melco’s Intelligent Music Library suite comprising MinimServer and SongKong software. The device is also Roon Ready, DSD compatible and offers app control via DLNA/UPnP (in USB DAC mode) with support for TIDAL, Qobuz and vTuner streaming with the Melco Music HD app. Qobuz Downloader and HighResAudio.com also enable direct, error-free high-res downloads without the need for a computer.

The N10/2 can also be used as a self-contained local hi-res digital music player when connected via a USB DAC; data rates of up to 32 bit/384 kHz and Octo DSD are supported, along with gapless and Melco markerless DSD.

Control is via the Melco Music HD app, from the front panel, or from approved third-party RF remote handsets and for network playback, UPnP control point apps.

EDIT: Μετά από παράκληση του Παναγιώτη, η συζήτηση για streamers που έγινε στο νήμα για το σύστημά του (βλ. "Return of the Jedi") μεταφέρεται εδώ.

Οποτε Γιωργο και Γιωργο τα πραγματα εχουν ως εξής, τα Melco δουλευουν σαν renderer και στην ουσια απλα διευθετουν την κινηση δεδομενων προς το DAC, τα δεδομενα ομως τα τραβαει απο το ιντερνετ το κινητο ή οτι αλλο χρησιμοποιει ο καθενας (laptop, NAS με σχετικη εφαρμογη) και κατα πασα πιθανοτητα αχρηστευεται η οποια ποιοτητα στην υλοποιηση του Melco. Με λιγα λογια το Melco αν παιζει με UPnP και οχι αρχεια σε local δεν προσφερει σχεδον τπτ. Εξ ου και ο λογος που δεν το πολυσκεφτομαι για Melco και κοιταω αλλες λυσεις με native αναπαραγωγη. Το Lighting DS ειναι πολυ καλη περιπτωση, εμενα μου αρεσει περισσοτερο ακομα και απο το Roon σαν interface.

Δεν ισχυει αυτο που λες. Το τηλεφωνο ειναι απλα ενα χειριστηριο. Η ποιοτητα του ηχου καθοριζεται καθαρα απο το εκαστοτε μηχανημα. Το ιδιο που ισχυει για το Auralic ισχυει για το Melco. Και τα δυο λειτουργουν με τα ιδια ακριβως πρωτοκολλα (ειτε UPnP ειτε Openhome, το επιλεγεις απο εσωτερικο μενου). Απλα το Auralic εχει ωραια εφαρμογη αναζητησης, καλυτερη απο τις υπολοιπες.

Τα δεδομενα δεν τραβιουνται απο κινητο η απο το IPad που χρησιμοποιεις. Τραβιoυνται απευθειας απο τον Server της Tidal και της Qobuz στο μηχανημα. Το κινητο απλα κραταει μια λιστα τιποτε αλλο αν εχεις UPnP αρα αν κλεισεις την εφαρμογη σταματαει να παιζει. Αν εχεις OpenHome η λιστα κρατιεται στο εκαστοτε μηχανημα οποτε και να κλεισεις την εφαρμογη η μουσικη συνεχιζει να παιζει. Ηχητικα τα δυο modes δεν εχουν καμια διαφορα...

Οχι Γιώργο, υπάρχουν διάφορες. Εξαρτάται από την τρόπο που χρησιμοποιεί ο καθένας την εφαρμογή. Αν το streamer καταλήγει να είναι μόνο renderer η ποιότητα του ήχου εξαρτάται και από το κινητό ταμπλέτα κτλ που τραβάει τα δεδομένα από το διαδίκτυο.

Τους κωδικούς του Qobuz τους έχεις περάσει μέσα στο streamer ή στην εφαρμογή UPnP? Λογικά σε εσένα το streamer πρέπει να παίζει native χωρίς θέμα.

Έως τώρα δεν έχω ακούσει διαφορές μεταξύ tablet κινητού και laptop που τα χρησιμοποιουσα σαν χειριστήρια σε Aurender Melco N1ZH, Melco N10 και APL DNP-SR. Νομίζω ούτε ο Αντρέας ούτε ο Γιάννης. Αυτά τα μηχανήματα δεν επηρεάζονται από τη συσκευή που χρησιμοποιείς σαν χειριστήριο. Είναι εύκολο να κάνεις το συγκριτικό...

Ισως το μπερδεύεις με το Tidal Connect (νομιζω εχει και το Spotify κατι αντιστοιχο) στο οποιο όντως το streaming γινεται απο την εφαρμογή που εχεις στο κινητό προς τον renderer. Στις εφαρμογές UPnP το streaming δε γινεται απο την εφαρμογή που εχεις στο κινητό….
